I usually try to avoid romance novels where possible, but Helena's stories seem to have something about them that draw me in and hold my attention throughout.
The characters all have their individual flaws which make them more human, but don't immediately endear them to the reader. As the story unfolds and we get to see the counterpoints to these quirks of personality, a clear picture starts to develop. At this point it's impossible not to read to the end to see the final outcome.
Lead characters you can love (eventually) and a villain to boo and hiss at. I thoroughly enjoyed it
I felt sad when I finished reading the final Love on the Island book as I did not expect to get easily attached to any new characters or scenery.
Helena has proven me wrong as I am already hooked on Kat and Mikael and London and the Finnish Lapland are perfect contrasting locations for the story.
Cannot wait to see how the story & the characters develop.
The future of the so far mostly unspoiled nature in Lapland and the many social and environmental threats to the traditional Sami
way of life in Finland, Sweden and Norway is a very important issue and I am glad that is was raised.
